How to Classify Images

The core of SwipeLab is the classification interface. Here's how to find your task, label images, and use the tools available to you.

The Home Screen

When you open SwipeLab, the Home screen displays an image waiting to be labeled. This image comes from your currently active task — or a default task if you haven't selected one yet. Swipe right to confirm a match with the species, or swipe left to reject it. You can also use the on-screen buttons.

Choosing a Task

If it's your first time, you've just finished a task, or you want to switch to something different, tap the Tasks button in the bottom navigation bar. On the Tasks screen you'll find:

  • Assigned tasks — tasks a researcher has assigned specifically to you.
  • Public tasks — tasks anyone can pick up.

Tap + next to a task to add it to your assigned tasks, then tap the Play ▶ button to start labeling images from that task.

Using the Reference Button

Not sure what the species looks like? Tap the Reference button below the image to view example photos of the species you're labeling. Use these as a guide when making your classification decision.
